It is the first model project of eco-village in Ras Sudr, South Sinai, Egypt.
It is a desert development eco-village where 30 acres of barren desert area has been changed into olive plantation and palm tree orchard.
It is the first organic farm in Sinai where everything is grown environmentally friendly  by organic ways .It is the first farm in Sinai to receive the Demiter certificate from UK.
It has been nominated to the Equator Prize by UNDP as a model of sustainable agriculture and the use of sustainable energy.
It  provides a model of agrobusiness and food production.

   THEMES OF SET EL HOSSN ECO-VILLAGE

1. SUSTAINABLE  USE OF BIODIVERSITY

The problem of desertification has affected the biodiversity of dry land by drought.
It has affected plant and animal thus extinguishing life in an area.Our research team has been able to dig deep wells of 30 meters depth and to provide a water source to plant olive and palm trees thus providing better ways of sustainable life in the desert.

2. NATURE CONSERVATION

The ecosystem approach through maintaining the biodiversity provides a strategy for management of land,water, and living.
Also the palm seed horticulture by growing special original kinds of palm seeds provides the most appropriate sustainable agriculture in the region.

3. ECOVILLAGE DEVELOPMENT

Ecovillages are communities of social structures united by common ecological,social,or spiritual values.Ecovillages move toward sustainability by ecological buildings,renewable energy, recycling schemes,and community building

A. Ecological Buildings

They are environmentaly friendly buildings using natural materials with breathing walls.We started using Beduin style buildings,using palm trees and Beduin tents.
Straw house is our further experimentation.

B.Renewable energy

As the Sinai desert is blessed by the whole year rising sun and continuous wind  so it provides a great field of research for our research and development team to use solar water heaters and solar lamps.

C.Community Building and Poverty Alleviation

Our community members develop a great bond of friendship and environmental respect Each one learns how to benefit and what to give to rural communities.
International groups learn a lot of cultural traditions and gain a lot of experiences.

Our visitors are encouraged to value nature and have more direct contact with plants and animals,and simple desert life style.Children are encouraged to attend our camps.

Our team are studying now a slow food project which joins our oriental Cultural traditions with the nutrional values of food and the pleasurable satisfaction of taste.
That gives a peaceful beautiful ,simple oriental atmosphere that adds a joyful happy feeling to the meal.

Special oriental recipies are being collected to help preserve
Our original traditional meals .Various vegetarian meals with special tastes that appeal to different people. Also several meat and poultry dishes are prepared.

It is a new aspect of nutrition and cooking.It provides organic oriental food in a very simple and pleasant atmosphere of simple beduin life style.

Also Organic Pickled olives with the most special oriental taste are available.

The project also includes health education and nutrition .It presents a link between Human sustainability and nature sustainability .

It includes various training courses which link between environment maintaining of biodiversity leading to nature sustainability and sustainable living .

It also includes the development of food festivals,olive cultivation festival,Spring Feast…etc

  SET EL HOSSN RULES AND REGULATIONS

Every visitor to our farm is considered a precious friend and family member.
To make your stay more comfortable please follow our guide points :

1. Borders of the Farm extend  as a square 2 sides of it are the street while the othersides are separated by Acasia trees from the neighbour, so please don’t trespass the neighbours. 

2. Walks in the farm can be done in the morning within the 30 acres in the free time. At night please be close to the group within the lighted area . No night walks are allowed .

3. Outside excursions are allowed only by car for your own safety.

4. You will notice several plants and animals please don’t pick  fruits, plants or interfere with animals .

5. Dogs are guarding the place and are free at night please don’t feed them or pet them.

6. Machines or wells  are strictly forbidden to deal with for your own safety.

7. Room or tent  tidiness is the guests responsibility ,no room service is available.

8. Inside rooms or tents, no smoking or drugs or drinking is allowed  also don’t use stoves, light fire or use electrical machines .

9. Don’t keep garbage or food inside your room or tent. 10. Your personal belongings is your responsibility you can keep valuables in the farm safe.

11. No drugs  are allowed in the place .

12. Cultural traditions  are to be respected so no topless or homosexuality or any extravagant behaviour is allowed. Private intimacy is not allowed outside room  .

13. Keep away from desert animals or birds just enjoy the diversity of nature.

14. Meals are only served during meal times so please be on time
15. Tap water is not for drinking you can buy mineral water from the shop .

16. Please always use your caps to avoid sun stroke and hot weather.

17. Please don’t take any cups or plates from the kitchen to rooms but return them to the kitchen after each meal.

18. Any violation of these rules, gives the ecovillage the right to discharge the guest without refund.
